Private services were held for Walter R. Philipkosky Jr., 69, of Long Branch, who passed peacefully on Saturday morning, April 4, 2026—Holy Saturday—after spending his final week surrounded by those he loved.
Known as “Rob” to family and “Walt” in his professional life, he passed from complications of chronic kidney disease.
Rob was deeply devoted to his faith and his family. He now joins his parents, Walter and Leona, in heaven during this sacred time in the Catholic faith—a time of profound sorrow followed by everlasting joy.
He was a devoted parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish (formerly St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church) and past proud longtime member of the Rotary Club of Charleroi. As an elected member of Long Branch Borough Council for nearly 30 years, Rob was guided by a steadfast belief that people should always be treated fairly and justly.
He will be remembered for his warm and gentle sense of humor, which never left him—even throughout his illness—and for his deep love and generosity, especially toward his beloved nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly. He is truly irreplaceable in all of our hearts.
He is survived by his sisters, Monica (Lee) Harmatz and Lisa Philipkosky; his brothers, Tom (Becky) and Jim; his nieces and nephews, Katie, Megan, Rachel (Sam), Lola, Greg (Sara), Aaron, Jacob, Noah, and Michael; and his great-nieces, Emma, Rylie, and Olivia.
Rob retired following a long and dedicated career as an IT manager and programmer.
Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Kidney Fund or the National Kidney Foundation.
