Veronica 'Vundy' T. Olson, 81, of Speers Hill passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Born on February 24, 1943 she was the daughter of the late Thomas Xavier and Ann (Chmura) Luketich.
Vundy was a woman of many talents, a skilled sewing enthusiast, and incredible cook and baker who prided herself on family traditional recipes that she loved to share. She avidly supported her children Renee and Ron, Jr. and grandchildren’s sports careers and extracurricular activities. She was one of the original football, baseball, wrestling, and dance moms who went on to become a soccer, gymnastics, cross-country, lacrosse Grandmaw or MAW as she was affectionately called by her five grandchildren, Cameron, Olivia, Ellisa, Bryce and Madelyn. Known to drive several hours to attend home and away games, rain or shine, she was her family’s ultimate fan. She spent some time after her children left for college babysitting for families who knew her children and who quickly became family to her. Vundy was married for 63 years to her husband Ron who was her high school sweetheart. To say he was the love of her life is an understatement. Vundy’s pride and joy were her family. She had two great grandchildren, Xavier and Lainey who meant the world to her. They were her reason to be, or as she would say, “you are my sunshine, my only sunshine”. Vundy was a woman of strong faith and found great comfort, peace and belonging in the Catholic Church. She was also a great lover of animals. Her absence will be strongly felt by those that knew and loved her.
“May the long time sun shine upon you. All love surround you and the pure light, Within you, guide your way home.”
Veronica is survived by her husband, Ronald John Olson, Sr.; children, Renee (Bruno) Olson Lepori, of Cape Cod, MA and Ronald (Maria) Olson, Jr., of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren, Cameron (Katelynn) R. Olson, of Nashville, TN, Oliva M. Olson, of Nashville, TN, Ellisa A. Olson Chee Foon, of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, Bryce R. Olson, of Sarasota, FL, and Madelyn (Sebastien) R. Weekes, of Clifton Park, NY; great-grandchildren, Xavier Thomas Chee Foon and Lainey Renee Olson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a sister, Rebecca Oblak.
Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am on Saturday, August 24 at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
