Robert Lindsay Obituary

Robert “Bob” Winspear Lindsay, 84, formerly of Monongahela, PA, passed away peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Hoover, Alabama, on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.  He was the son of Douglas A. and Janet M. (Winspear) Lindsay, of Union, NJ.

Born on April 14, 1933, Bob was a graduate of Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield Township, NJ.  He spent 23 very proud years serving in the United States Navy in the submarine service. He served on the USS Tang (SS-306), the USS Skipjack (SSN-585) and the USS Pollack (SSN-603) on which he served as Chief of the Boat, retiring in Toledo, OH as Master Chief for recruiting. From 1975 until his second retirement in 1996, he worked in sales with Cooper Industries.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Rita (Picinotti) Lindsay. Together they loved their family and friends, travelled the world and built a welcoming home. Although he ended up a sailor, he started out as a Future Farmer of America and played the piccolo in the band. He skied on water and snow, was an avid reader and took pride in and restored a 1915 Model T Ford Touring car and a 1964 1/2 Mustang!

He is survived by three sons, Terry Lindsay and his partner Daniel Mieczynski, of SouthWindham, CT, Douglas Lindsay and his wife Lisa (Ayoob) of Hoover, AL, and Gary "Max" Lindsay of Newport News, VA; grandsons, Schuyler Lindsay of Manteno IL, and United States Army Specialist Spencer Lindsay, stationed at Fort Bliss, TX; a sister, Joan Koehler, of Scotch Plains, NJ; and a brother and sister in law, David and Ellen Lindsay, of Gillsville, GA.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his brother, John (Jack) Lindsay of Union, NJ.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 21 at 10:30am at Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi. Interment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 12:30pm. A luncheon celebrating Bob’s life will follow at 2pm at the Monongahela Valley Country Club.
