Myra J. Motycki Obituary

Myra Jean Motycki, 92, went to Heaven on June 5, 2026. Born on August 26, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Bessie (Gervelis) Gilli Madzy and Nello Gilli. She is a 1952 graduate of Charleroi High School and married John Motycki on July 4, 1955. Together, they had six children.

She worked at the Open Pantry and managed the deli at the Giant Eagle for years. She made the best potato salad and her fried fish was regularly requested at the fish fry at St. Andrew the Apostle, where she was a life-long member.

She never missed a concert, sporting match, graduation, or any other event of one of her grandchildren and was fondly known as Mum-Mum to her grandchildren and, in turn, most of Charleroi.

Her familiar “hello” greeted callers on the phone and always brought a smile to the caller. Myra volunteered at and managed the Charleroi Food Bank for several years. She hosted annual Christmas Eve parties, loved to travel with her sisters, Lora and Carol, and would visit her family everyday, but she would never stay too long.

She is survived by her children, John (Susan) Motycki, of Charleroi, Karen Sava, of Belle Vernon, Janice Newstrom, of Charleroi, Rick Motycki, of Charleroi, and Gary (Jeannine) Motycki, of Charleroi; grandchildren, all of whom would claim they are her favorite, Katie, Mike (Cory), Maggie (JC), Morgan, Jon Eric (Jen), Danielle (Luke), Karlie (Derek), Briana (Sean), Hannah (Charles), Dillon (Joanie), Mason (Almond), Tess (Justin), Cody (Kaylee), Samantha (TJ) and Lexi (Ryan); great grandchildren, Sadie, Sam, Cody, Seth, Waylon, Dante, Lorenzo, Giavanna, Jackson, Maisy, Addyson, Hunter, Reece, Mason, Nathan, Kamden, Corrine, and Tristan; siblings, Lora Lee Staranko, Marlene Tokar, and Carol Green; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John Motycki; step-father, Mike Madzy; daughter, Debbie Motycki; brother, Ted Madzy; daughter-in-law, Peggy Motycki; son-in-law, John Sava; and grandson, Brandon Rands.

The family would like to thank the OSPTA Hospice care team and the nursing staff at Premier Washington South for their loving care of our Mum-Mum.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 8 from 2-7 p.m. at the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
