Michael Andrew Carroll, 84, of Monongahela, PA, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 29, 2026. Michael was born on June 16, 1941, in New Eagle, PA, to the late Cecil and Florence (Diaz) Carroll and then resided in Carroll Township, PA.

Michael was a 1959 graduate of Charleroi High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied toward a future career in electrical engineering. Michael began his career at Westinghouse while continuing his studies. He later moved on to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he spent the bulk of his professional career. During his time there, he became the youngest superintendent in company history, leading a large division through one of the most uncertain periods in the Pittsburgh steel industry. Michael completed his career as Chief Engineer for Duraloy Technologies.

Michael was highly skilled in many technical areas and was an adamant do-it-yourselfer. He took great pride in passing much of his knowledge and hands-on skills to his son, Michael. Although he also taught his daughters, they fondly remember their primary role as holding the flashlight. The most cherished memory for his daughters was his ever-present greeting of “Hi, sweetheart.” Michael always placed his family first. He was known for his humor, endless generosity, and intelligence. He most of all enjoyed hosting parties for his friends and family. Michael’s youthful passions included working on cars, playing his guitar, and listening to music. Music remained a passion throughout his life. Michael was an avid sports fan, especially all things Pittsburgh, with particular emphasis on his beloved Steelers. Of course, as an Irishman, he also loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame football. Michael loved everything football, having himself played for the 1959 WPIAL AA Championship Charleroi Cougars football team.

Michael is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 45 years, Francine (Caruso) Carroll; his brother, Patrick, and wife Elvira Carroll of Saratoga, CA; and their four children: Trisha (Bill) Carroll Schwalb, Michael (Kim) Carroll, Shellie (Bryan) Carroll Shepherd, and Natalie (Derek) Carroll Jones. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Brett (Myranda) Schwalb, Samantha (Tim) Sheehan, Brianna (Cody) Simpson, Mackenzie Smith, Brayden Shepherd, and Tanner Shepherd; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Michael is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Joseph (Donna) Caruso, Alfred (Linda) Caruso, and John E. Matty.

In addition to his parents, Michael is predeceased by his first wife, Letishia (Murray) Carroll; his first child, Letishia; sister, Maryellen (Robert) Carroll Sparks; his mother's-in-law and father's-in-law, Willis and Geraldine Murray and Alfred and Lorraine Caruso; his sister-in-law, Doreen (Murray) Matty; and one great-granddaughter.

The family would like to extend their enormous thanks to Dee, who helped Francine lovingly care for Michael in his final years. The family would also like to thank their wonderful friends and neighbors who assisted with his care throughout recent years. It truly does take a village, and we are eternally grateful for all of them. Special thanks go out to Dr. Ronald Lutes; Devon Carson, CRNP; and their entire staff. Exceptional nursing care was provided at the bedside by Amedisys Home Health, as well as ViaQuest Hospice, with our angel Joan Holets, for whom words can never express just how perfectly and compassionately she guided our family through Michael’s final days.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Monday, February 2 in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Tuesday at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi, with interment following in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
