Mac McBurnie Obituary

Mac McBurnie, a long-haul trucker who carried cattle around the country, passed away Friday, October 27th.  He was 33 and had lived in Charleroi until taking to the road several years ago.

Mac loved the open road, and he became widely admired among family, friends and strangers for his ability to provide directions off the top of his head.

“He was the human GPS,” said his brother Jon Thomas McBurnie, of Salem, Oregon. “I never met anyone who enjoyed their job as much as him.”

He also had a knack for all things mechanical and musical.

“He was so intelligent. He could do something a couple of times and pick it up. He used to stop at construction sites and offer to work for free just to pick up new skills,” his brother said. “And if you put a musical instrument in his hands, he could play it by ear.”

Mac also had a great love of animals and spent much of his life working and interacting with both domestic and exotic animals.

In addition to his brother, Mac is survived by his parents, Michael and Meg Byron Malady, of Charleroi; a sister Molly Ann Malady; his maternal grandmother, Gerry “Nan” Byron; his father Richard McBurnie, of Long Branch, and his paternal grandparents, Richard and Darlene McBurnie.

Also surviving are his dear cousins Byron Blevins, B.J. Blevins, and Brittany Blevins Mosco, who he grew up with living on the same street in Charleroi. Among his many aunts, uncles and cousins, whom he dearly loved, his aunt Beth Byron Blevins held a special place in his heart.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director.  Services will be held immediately following the visitation.
