Louis F. Bigi, 88, of Speers, died on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the Residence at Hilltop. Born on March 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna Paoly Bigi.
He was a retired machinist and superintendent at Ingersoll Rand, and was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Charleroi Knights of Columbus. He loved RVing with his wife and fishing.
Lou was a veteran of the US Navy, serving on the navy ship USS Sterett DD-407. He fought in four major battles, won four Bronze Stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He is survived by his son, Frank Louis Bigi, of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Bonnie Schulde, and husband Rainer, of Woodhaven, MI.; brother, Herman Bigi, and wife Patty, of Carroll Twp.; sister, Anna Marie Hurdelsh, of Charleroi; grandchildren, Alexis Bigi, Jonathan Richards, Stephanie Blake, and Nicky Bigi; and great-grandson, Jonathan Yates.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Alberta Felentzer Bigi.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, in Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi, celebrated by Rev. Gerald Mikonis. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
