Joseph Gibino, 80, of Fallowfield Twp. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 6, 2023. Born on September 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Joseph and Grace (Ricotta) Gibino.
Joe was born in North Charleroi and raised in Dunlevy, attending the Charleroi area schools. His parents built, owned, and operated the White Barn Cafe (now White Barn Supper Club) in Dunlevy. Joe attended Penn State University, then California State Teachers College (now PennWest California) and taught secondary math at California High School. He was then employed as a machinist at the Allenport plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp for over 32 years. In addition to his work as a machinist, he also worked part-time for many years as a contractor building several homes, room additions, installing roofing, etc. He was an avid sports fan and followed the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins as well as watching college football games.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Dominick Gibino.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Marjorie; as well as his 4 daughters, Tina Smith (Paul), Sandra Kulwicki (Jim), Karen Vollstedt (Phil), and Debra Holliday (Christian); his 11 grandchildren, Joe (Kenzi), Zachary (Ali), Alex (Courtney), Nicholas (Kara), Jakob, Justin, Jessica, Jimmy, Samuel, Dylan, and Gianna; and 3 great-grandchildren, Oliver, Gwendolyn, and Liam; sister, Anna Louise Kerr, of Catlett, VA; aunt, Anna Van Fleet, of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends including his 2 cats, Tigger and Rambo, and Frasco the Collie.
His family would like to thank Anova Hospice Care, his nurses for their excellent care, and his three therapy cats, Maui, Karbon, and Kleopatra.
To honor Joe's wishes, there will be no services or visitation.
