Joseph S. Frantz Obituary

Joseph S. Frantz, 94, of Charleroi, died on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Paramount Senior Living, Peters Twp., surrounded by his loving family.  Born on December 11, 1922, in Charleroi, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Frantz.  

He was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church, the Mon Valley Leathernecks, Corning Retirees, Charleroi Golden Agers, and the former VFW of Charleroi.  He was retired after 43 years at Corning as an electrician.  

Joseph served active duty in WWII in the 4th Marine Division Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.  He served Feb. 26, 1943 to Nov. 26, 1945 action in the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands and Iwo Jima.  

On July 29, 1947, he married Stella Poteray, who survives, at the former St. Jerome's Church in Charleroi.  He is also survived by daughters, Barbara (Jon) Batchelor, of Upper St. Clair, Lorraine (Jack) McGovern, of McMurray, and Diane Bachik, of McMurray; grandchildren, Rachel, Alyssa, John, Katie, Jennifer, Courtney, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Ezra; sister, Bernice (Frank) Patrarca, of McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Paul, William, Rudolph, Albert, and Bernard; and sisters, Mary Gunchuck, Helen Woytovich, Joann Moffit, Margaret Luzanski, and Sister (Anne) Angeline O.S.F.  

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, in Mary, Mother of the Church, with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.  

Contributions may be made to Mon Valley Leathernecks "Toys for Tots" or the Salvation Army.
