John A. Martucci, 87, formerly of Charleroi, died on September 4, 2020 at his home in Finleyville, surrounded by family. Born on September 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Michele “Mike” and Mary (Celaschi) Martucci. He graduated from Charleroi H.S. (1950) and he received undergraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh (Chemistry) and Carnegie Tech (Business). He was involved in the Navy nuclear submarine program and the development of the Shippingport Atomic Power Station which was associated with that program. He went on to a career in the nuclear industry and energy sector more broadly.
He was involved in the Junior Achievement program and served on the boards of the John K. Tener library, the Greater Charleroi Community Development Corporation, and the Mon-Valley Initiative.
A classically trained oboist, John played the oboe, english horn, classical guitar, saxophone and clarinet. He played in the Charleroi H.S. Marching Band, the Pitt Marching Band, the U.S. Army 9th Infantry Divisional Band, the MARS Band, the Mon Valley Community Band, the National Veterans Band, and the Laurel Mountain Winds woodwind quintet.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane (Zemko) Martucci; four children: Mike, Mary Bice, and husband Tom, Anne Handley, and husband Jim, and Joseph; three grandchildren: Lucy Handley, Parker John Handley and Alexander Bice; and his nephew Robert Arthurs.
Services were private for the family with interment in Monongahela Cemetery.
