Irene Missiriotis, 82, formerly of Charleroi, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Uniontown Hospital.
She was born on November 12, 1938 in North Charleroi, the daughter of Alexander and Athena Missiriotis. She graduated from Charleroi High School in the class of 1956 having achieved high honors in shorthand and typing. After high school she was employed as a secretary for Woodward Law Firm in Charleroi while attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to pursue a field in fashion design. Upon graduating she was hired by the May Co. O’Neil’s as a fashion illustrator in Youngstown and Akron Ohio. She returned to Pittsburgh to teach at the Art Institute and attended the University of Pittsburgh where she graduated with degrees in psychology and English. Following her teaching time, Irene was employed as an Activities Director at a number of senior centers in the Pittsburgh area. Her love for the arts and singing led her to bit parts in local musical stage plays and was an avid artist painting numerous scenes and portraits throughout her lifetime with many of her paintings in private collections. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen where she sang and volunteered in the choir. She was also a member of the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Pittsburgh where she volunteered at their festivals. Irene was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was especially proud of her niece Athena.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1973 and her mother in 2015.
She is survived by her brother, George and wife Andrea, of Belle Vernon; and niece, Athena, of Belle Vernon.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 am on Monday, March 8 at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Monessen. Funeral services will begin at 11 am and interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
