Betty Swanson (Elizabeth Marie Soltis Swanson), 95, of Charleroi, passed away on March 7, 2019.  She was a beautiful person who always put others first.  

She was a devoted wife to her husband, Frank Swanson, whom she was married to for over 50 years.  She was a wonderful mother to her 5 children, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.  She was a very special daughter to her mother Sue Dubnansky Soltis and her father Daniel Soltis.  Betty was famous at the old St. Jerome's church bake sales in the 1950's for her Lady Baltimore cake.  She was a world traveler who took 25 trips internationally and also visited her ancestral home in Circ, Slovakia many times.  She was very dedicated to the Carpatho-Rusyn Society and being the matriarch of her family, and she helped many family members with their genealogy including Professor Oresick of Carnegie Mellon University.  

She is survived by her children, Frank G. Swanson, of Charleroi, Kathleen Swanson (Robert) Steitler, of Aiken, SC, and Mary Beth (David Praisler) Swanson, of Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren, Laura Steitler (Hadley) Panzer, of Asheville, NC, Robert Seth Steitler, of Daniel Island, SC, and Daniel W. (Hannah) Steitler, of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Alexe and Ellison Panzer, and several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Frank Swanson; son, John Daniel Swanson, daughter, Ann Marie Swanson; and brother John “Jack” Soltis.  

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, March 10 in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director.    Panachida will be at 9:30 am on Monday, in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 10 am. at Holy Ghost Byzantine Church, Charleroi, with Father Stephen Wahal officiating.  Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
