JoAnn L. Braunegg, 93, of Charleroi, died on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. She was born on February 19, 1925, the oldest and last remaining of the seven children had by the late Charles and Josephine Gwyer, of Monessen.
After she graduated from Monessen High School she enlisted and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. JoAnn married George F. Braunegg in 1954 and enjoyed a loving 58 year marriage until George passed in June of 2013. She was a member of Mary Mother of the Church, an active member of Christian Mother's, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hiberians (LAOH #4). She also loved to travel and spend time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, George Braunegg, and wife, Janet, of Los Angeles, CA., and Thomas Braunegg and wife, Roseann, of Cortland, OH; daughter, Kathleen Braunegg, of South Park; and grandchildren, Dr. Michael Braunegg, and wife, Dr. Lindsey, of Sagamore Hills, OH; George Braunegg, of Los Angeles; Katelyn Braunegg, of Cleveland, OH; and Rachel Braunegg, of Cortland , OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Genevieve Schwer, Mary Ellen Kunka, Patty Gogal, Mildred Conn; and brothers, Charles Gwyer and John “Jack” Gwyer.
Friends will be received 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, Joseph A. Lopez, funeral director. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, in Mary, Mother of the Church, Charleroi, with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.
