Dennis Shannon Obituary

Dennis Robert Shannon, 71, of California, Pa., passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019. Born on May 11, 1948, he was the son of the late Charles and Rita (Kearney) Shannon.

He was catholic by faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and was a retired graphic designer and artist, working for the Valley Independent Newspaper, the Herald-Standard Newspaper and had produced promotional ads for Wetterau Inc. and Fox Grocery. He even started his own printing company. He was a member of the Monessen Elk's. He loved cooking, classic rock (Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, ELO and Kenny Rogers were among his favorites), Pittsburgh sports (especially the Penguins and the Pirates) and all things Irish. He had a nickname for everyone and had a passion for creating and reading newspapers.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Katlyn (Mark) Segreto and Megan (Paul) Stokes, both of Orlando, and their mother, Kathleen Shannon Angelo; grandchildren, Elena Segreto, and Avery and Lia Stokes; sisters, Susie (Scott) Campbell of Dublin, OH and Sheila Arison of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and many loving nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Chick Shannon, his brother-in-law Ron Arison and his godson Jeff Arison.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Church of Assumption, 45 N. Sprague Ave., Pittsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, Dennis' family suggests donating to 365 Hospice, who helped make his final months more comfortable. 365 Hospice is located at 2549 Mosside Blvd., Monroeville, Pa. 15416.
